Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty, more casually referred to as “nose job surgery,” is one the most common cosmetic surgeries. It balances the proportions of the nose and enhances facial harmony. It is also acknowledged by plastic surgeons as one of the most difficult procedures, as the nose is a highly complex three-dimensional structure that is not only the most prominent aesthetic feature of the face, but it is responsible for vital breathing functions. Dr. Hancock understands the importance of nasal form and function, allowing her to give each rhinoplasty patient a natural looking nose that looks as beautiful as it functions.
REVISION RHINOPLASTY
Revision rhinoplasty may be performed for multiple reasons. Some patients are dissatisfied with the aesthetic results from one or more previous rhinoplasty surgeries. Others were initially satisfied, but then, over time, the results have changed or as the aging process has caused additional aesthetic concerns. Believe it or not, the most common reason for a revision rhinoplasty is nasal obstruction. Patients may experience significant breathing and functional issues related to over-resection of the framework of the nose or loss of support mechanisms of the nose during their initial surgery. Still, others have a combination of functional and aesthetic issues. This is where Dr. Hancock comes in. Using The Total Nose Approach™, she can address both the internal and external issues unique to these very complicated situations to give patients a nose that looks as beautifully as it functions.
Total nose Approach™
The Total Nose Approach™ is a philosophy, not a procedure. The surgery in which the inside AND the outside of the nose are optimized is known as the ‘Total Nose Approach™ procedure’. A Total Nose Approach™ procedure may involve minimally-invasive techniques to address internal issues affecting the sinuses, septum, nasal valves, and/or turbinates, as well as a #rhinoplasty to address the outside appearance of the nose.
You may be a candidate if you have symptoms such as difficulty breathing through your nose, facial pain/pressure, sinus congestion, headaches, decreased or absent sense of smell, and/or snoring. If you also dislike the way your nose looks – maybe because your nose is crooked, there is a bump/hump, or it is too large for your face, to name a few reasons – then, YES, a Total Nose Approach procedure may be right for you.
Balloon Sinuplasty
Balloon sinuplasty is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat chronic or recurrent sinusitis that is unresponsive to other treatments. In this procedure, a small balloon on a wire catheter is inserted into the nostril and guided to the blocked sinus. The balloon is then inflated to widen the sinus passageway, restoring normal sinus drainage without damaging the sinus lining. It usually results in less pain and bleeding than traditional surgery, and typically has a shorter recovery time. It can benefit individuals who experience recurring sinus infections or have chronic sinusitis symptoms that do not respond to conservative treatments like medication and nasal irrigation.
Functional nose surgery
Functional nose surgery is a specialized surgical procedure that focuses on rectifying structural issues within the nose that obstruct normal breathing. The main objective of this surgery is not cosmetic alteration, but rather improving the function of the nose. Typical conditions addressed by functional surgery include a deviated septum, enlarged turbinates (turbinate hypertrophy), and nasal valve collapse, all of which can hinder proper airflow. In some cases, this surgery may also be combined with other procedures such as polyp removal or sinus surgery to further enhance breathing.

What are the benefits of a Rhinoplasty?
The goal of any rhinoplasty in Dr. Hancock’s hands is to give each patient a nose that looks natural – like the nose they were supposed to be born with. However, the nose isn’t the only change that happens with a rhinoplasty. In fact, a lot changes.
“My patients feel confident enough to experiment with makeup. They begin to embrace their inner Queen/King, feeling less trapped by their own overly critical or self-deprecating thoughts. We all have them, but we find a new inner strength to shut them up. They land huge work opportunities because of a new confidence they didn’t even know or realize they had. They cut, color, or style their hair for the first time in a decade. They shave their facial hair. They start dating again.
Most patients can’t believe how different they are. They can’t believe how much of self-confidence they attached to their nose. ‘How could 1 little thing affect so much of my life?'” -Dr. Hancock
Who is a candidate for a Rhinoplasty?
Some of the most common reasons for pursuing a rhinoplasty include:
- Bump or hump on the bridge of the nose
- A nose that is too wide or too narrow
- A crooked or twisted nose
- Large (Bulbous) nose tip
- Droopy nose or one that droops downward when you smile
- Disproportionate nostrils
- A nose that has had trauma
Ultimately, the decision to undergo a rhinoplasty is extremely personal. If you feel that the appearance of your nose is affecting your confidence, social life, or success in your profession, you may be a good candidate to undergo surgery to reshape your nose, or improve breathing function, or both.
